Uncapped allrounder Glenn Maxwell missed a chance to push his Test claims by falling for a duck on day one of Australia's two-day game against an Indian Board XI on Tuesday.

Maxwell came in at No.4 and was caught behind off the bowling of paceman Stuart Binny in the post-lunch session as Australia reached 4-170 at tea.
Maxwell's rivals for the allrounder's position in the Test side were at the crease at tea, with Steve Smith 30 not out and the uncapped Moises Henriques on one.

Opener Ed Cowan made 58 in an important knock given the ongoing speculation that Test No.4 Shane Watson might be better suited at the top of the order.
Usman Khwaja (32) and Cowan shared an opening stand of 77 at the tree-lined Guru Nanak College Ground in Chennai, as hundreds of students watched from behind a barbed-wire fence at the college end.
Legspinner Sarabjit Ladda struck five minutes before lunch as Khawaja swept a ball to deep mid-wicket.
Cowan reached his half-century after lunch off 98 deliveries. But on 58 the left-hander leant forward and was given out caught behind to offspinner Parvez Rassol at 2-109.
Rassol (2-36 off 18 overs) also removed skipper Matthew Wade who was caught at long-off for 35 after adding 58 for the third wicket with Smith.
Maxwell, whose international profile soared after being bought last weekend by Mumbai Indians for $US1 million in the Indian Premier League auction, lasted only eight balls and was out at 4-169.
Watson, Xavier Doherty, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Phil Hughes arrived on Monday night following Australia's one-day series against West Indies and are likely to play in the three-day game starting on Saturday.
Skipper Michael Clarke and David Warner, who are nursing hamstring and thumb complaints, are due to arrive overnight.
Western Australia spinner Ashton Agar, 19, has been included in the Australia team for the two-day game as part of his development and is heading home this weekend.
