Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper to score a double-hundred for India as the hosts took complete control of the first Test against Australia in Chennai.
1st Test - MA Chidambaram Stadium
22 February 2013 - Day 3, Session 3
India 1st Innings
M. Dhoni | 206 | 243 | 22 | 5 | 84.77 |
B. Kumar | 16 | 56 | 2 | 0 | 28.57 |
M. Henriques | 17 | 4 | 48 | 1 | 2.82 |
In a knock reminiscent of Adam Gilchrist at his best, India's skipper smashed the Aussie bowlers to all parts, ending the day on 206 not out, with debutant Bhuvneshwar Kumar on 16 not out.
With every massive six struck by Dhoni - he hit five in total - India's lead ballooned out even more, with the hosts going to stumps at 8-515, a lead of 135.
Dhoni's superb effort overshadowed Virat Kohli's innings earlier in the day.
The 24-year-old brought up his triple figures off 199 balls before throwing his wicket away on 107 going for a slog over mid-on against spinner Nathan Lyon.
That was one of three wickets for Lyon, as he picked up the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar for 81 with a ball that ripped out of the footmarks, as well as bowling Ravichandran Ashwin.
James Pattinson was again Australia's best bowler and was rewarded with another wicket, that of Ravindra Jadeja for 16, to go with his three from Saturday.
Moises Henriques also picked up his first wicket in Test cricket after clean bowling 100-Test veteran Harbhajan Singh, who won't want to see a replay of the shot he played.
More to come...
