A classy knock from Shaun Marsh has secured a home semi-final berth for Perth Scorchers after Adelaide Strikers fell well short.

Marsh's controlled innings of 79 from 60 balls piloted his side to a superb total of 189 - a target that proved far too daunting for an out of sorts Strikers batting line-up.

The Strikers will now be forced to sit back and wait as Hobart Hurrivanes host Brisbane Heat in the final home and away fixture, with a Heat upset offering their only slim hopes of qualifying.

The Strikers did a huge amount of damage to their chances by falling so far short in their chase, causing a reasonable net run rate to plummet.

The Scorchers will now host their second home semi-final in two years after the tournament's best opening pair again got their side off to an excellent start before Herschelle Gibbes fell for a well-made 54 from just 34 balls.
