Melbourne Stars scraped home for victory in a low-scoring and sometimes fiery KFC T20 Big Bash League clash with Hobart Hurricanes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday night.
T20 - Melbourne Cricket Ground
15 December 2012 - Day 1, Session 2
Stars 1st Innings
J. Faulkner | 6 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 150 |
P. Handscomb | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 100 |
E. Gulbis | 3.1 | 0 | 28 | 0 | 8.84 |
The Hurricanes batted first and got off to a shaky start, losing key batsmen Ricky Ponting, Travis Birt and Owais Shah early on.
Clever batting from Tim Paine, George Bailey and Scott Styris eventually helped Hobart post a modest total of 8-134.
The Stars didn't fare much better at the start of their innings, with Doug Bollinger and Ben Laughlin causing plenty of problems with the ball.
Brad Hodge and Rob Quiney got the Stars back on track, but after they were both dismissed in quick succession the game hung in the balance.

Just as the match was at its most tense moment, controversy struck when James Faulkner appeared to handle the ball, infuriating the bowler, Laughlin.
Faulkner escaped and was at the crease as Evan Gulbis bowled a no-ball in the last over to hand the Stars an anti-climactic victory.
More to come...
