Fumiaki Tanaka is a man on a mission after becoming the first Japanese player signed to play in the Super Rugby competition after landing a deal with New Zealand's Highlanders.
Tanaka, a 27-year-old halfback known for his speed and fast passing, played for Otago in New Zealand's top provincial ITM Cup competition this year.
"As the first Japanese in Super Rugby, I want to show the world what Japanese are capable of doing," said Tanaka, who played for Japan in last year's Rugby World Cup and has 31 Test caps.
"I will set no limits and play in as many games as possible."
Tanaka is scheduled to return to his Japanese Top League club, Panasonic Wild Knights after the 2013 Super Rugby season.
He is included in Japan's squad for their November tour of Europe, including Tests against Romania and Georgia as well as games against a Basque select team and the French Barbarians.
